You often hear the words self-realization or self-discovery. To know the actual meaning of this you have to look at what is within you. From where does your life start and what is the purpose of your existence? A human is a unique creature with so many layers. You don’t know what is next to the one layer and what is at the end. God has made a man very deep. The journey of self-discovery is as unique as your fingerprint. There’s no one-size-fits-all path but remember, the process starts from within.
In your life, what you truly have is yourself. You have to spend a full life with one person and it’s you. You are the hero of your life. The greatest treasure lies inside you. A man is created with a power.
A power with which you can change your life and also make a positive impact in other lives. But the question arises, how you can unlock that power?
If we notice, our life starts from childhood. We start doing unconsciously what we see. We know ourselves with the perception of others. We were born in pure form but as we grow society and the environment around us take control of our minds. We live a life without knowing what is our true self. Don’t you think this is a complete injustice in our life, yes, you know the answer which is, “ totally unfair “.
What is meant by Self-discovery?
To know the existence of something you have to look at its base.
Here is my favourite example, whenever we want to know the reason of dried plants we look at the roots. It’s a roots which keep the plants alive.
And for you, it is your needs, strengths, weaknesses, passion, fears and the way you think and how you feel. Those small moments when you can truly connect with yourselves. The things in which you put your belief. The values you have and the rules you make for your well-being. The boundaries you set to keep your relations healthy and your sense of right and wrong, that is all that make your roots.
Self-discovery is not a destiny, it is a track. This is a path on which you come to know yourself. This is a path on which you discover what is inside your mind and heart. A self-discovery is a discovery of your heart, your soul and your mind. To cover this path all you need is awareness. Awareness about the things which keeps you alive.
You need to pay attention to the thoughts that flow in your mind, even those that happen unconsciously. To be fully aware, you need to focus on your present moment.
The Barriers on the Road to Self-Discovery
Here is a piece about problems which maybe you commonly face that block your journey to self-discovery. Overcoming these obstacles within and without is a first step. The path to self-discovery is rarely a straight shot. It’s more like a winding road.
The Personal Criticism
Personal criticism is your worst enemy. Your inner critic is that distressing voice in your head that constantly points out your flaws. It tells you that you are not good enough, smart enough, or worthy enough. This relentless negativity can throw away your confidence and make it difficult to believe in yourself.
Societal Conditioning
Societal Conditioning is the Invisible Bar. We are all born with unique potential but society often tries to mould us into its pre-defined boxes. You are bombarded with messages about how you should look, how you should act, and what you should achieve. This constant pressure can make it difficult to connect with your authentic self.
The Noise of the World
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the external noise that drowns out your inner voice. Social media, constant news updates, and the pressure to stay connected can leave you feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from your inner self. Due to all these, you forget to pause, reflect, and listen to the quiet wisdom within.
A Path to the Self-Discovery
We observe other people, and sometimes we judge and criticize them. We think about their actions and we run behind them. It can be our curiosity and a void that keeps us behind those people. We are so busy watching them that we forget to pay attention to ourselves because we are unaware of the direction to discover ourselves. Now let’s talk about you. To start self discovery you have to take this one action first:
“ Accept yourself and Focus on your personality ”
Give yourself a proper time. It’s you and only you who knows everything about you. Sit with all your good and bad, right and wrong, strengths and weaknesses and with belief and doubts.
Process all your thoughts, it’s a long journey. You can not discover your true self in one day or one sitting with yourself. It’s a path you have to follow throughout the life. Let’s move towards a strategy I organize for self-discovery:
Wisdom from Within
Your mind is a dark room. A room with no light. But it has a closed window, a special
window to the light. This window, dear reader, is the wisdom within you. It’s not about having all the answers but about having the ability to observe the world with clarity and compassion. It’s about quieting the mental chatter and truly seeing what’s in front of you.
Most people walk through life with their windows shut. They react instinctively, driven by emotions and conditioned beliefs. But those who reach for the window, who choose to open it and see the world mindfully, embark on a remarkable journey.
It’s not an easy journey. The window can be dusty, and the view is sometimes blurry. But with each mindful breath, and each moment of focused observation, the window becomes clearer. You start to see the world as it truly is, not as you were conditioned to see it. And in that clarity, you discover your true self. You find your unique reality.
So, dear reader, open your window. Take a deep breath, and step into the world of mindful observation. The journey to self-discovery awaits.
Reprogram your Mind to Discover Yourself
Imagine yourself standing before a library, its shelves bursting with countless volumes. This library isn’t filled with paperbacks but with experiences, emotions, and memories – your library of self. Unlike other creatures, bound by pre-programmed characteristics, you hold the key to rewriting your story. But reaching those dusty upper shelves, the wisdom and potential is required.
Forgive yourself for your mistakes
This doesn’t mean erasing your past, but acknowledging it and gently releasing its hold. Forgive yourself for your past mistakes, accept those certain experiences that shaped you, and then, with mindful awareness, let them go.
Be conscious and aware
Becoming conscious is the foundation of self-discovery. It’s like waking up from a dream and truly starting to live your life with intention and awareness. I believe that we have two lives, not one.
Your first life is a life before consciousness. It is an unknown life where you are not aware of yourselves and you don’t know “ why you exist. ” And what you know about yourself is the perception of other people. You believe what they say about yourself. You depend on ordinary people. You act how they want you to act. You live with a reference of others.
Your second life starts exactly at the moment when you get the answer of “ WHY? ”
When you know there exists a potential inside you. It’s your rebirth. If you have that life, you are lucky. It’s a life of full awareness and wisdom.
Find your true Reality
It’s a journey of suffering and experiences to reach your best version. You have to work on it daily. To unlock your truth, your consistency is required. Here is an example in my mind, the body trainer never misses any day to train his body, he is consistent in what he is doing to achieve what he wants.
And similarly to find your reality you have to live in your present moments. Your “ now “ is your truth and it’s your reality. Be aware of your every action. Start with little things, and focus on what you do daily and what pushes you to take good and bad actions. Experience new things and break your outer shell. Especially don’t run from suffering because it brings out your true authenticity and strength. Be patient, be kind to yourself, and trust the process.
Discover your Passion
It’s research which tells us that a man is born with 3 to 5 talents. To discover that talent, you have to open up to new experiences in your life. Try everything you want to do and then analyse what makes you happy.
Dive Deep:
Reflect on activities that make you lose track of time. Do you lose yourself in music, tinkering with electronics, or writing stories? These hints whisper your passions.
Challenge Yourself to Discover Your Passion:
Step outside your comfort zone. Try a new class, volunteer, or join a club. You might surprise yourself with hidden talents for painting, teaching, or even public speaking!
Look at Your Past:
Dust off childhood memories. Did you love building forts, drawing comics, or performing plays? Reconnect with those forgotten interests – they might hold the key to your passion.
Don’t Fear Failure:
Start trying new things besides what you want. Every experience, good or bad, teaches you valuable lessons and helps refine your path.
Remember, passion and talent are journeys, not destinations. Enjoy the exploration, and who knows what amazing discoveries await?
Connect with Yourself by Meditation
In the rush of life, finding moments of quiet can feel impossible. It’s important to have the ability to connect with yourself, truly feel what’s inside, and nurture positive change. Meditation offers a gateway to this inner world, a space where you can cultivate self-awareness, release negativity, and discover a wellspring of motivation.
Embrace the Silence
Find a quiet space, free from distractions. Sit comfortably, and close your eyes. However, as thoughts arise acknowledge them gently and then let them drift away like clouds across the sky. Focus on your breath, the rise and fall of your chest, the cool air entering your nostrils. It’s your anchor which guides you back to the present when your mind wanders.
Feel Your Emotions
Don’t judge or resist any emotion. Embrace them all, the joy, the anger, the sadness. Each emotion holds a message, a story waiting to be understood. Observe them with curiosity. Notice the physical sensations in your body by simply acknowledging them.
Find Your Motivation
Ask yourself, what fulfils me? What excites me? Visualize goals that align with your deepest desires, not societal expectations. The connection to your authentic self empowers you to take action, make choices that resonate with your heart, and create a truly meaningful life.
Discover your Diamond to embrace the joy of Self-Discovery
There is a diamond inside every person. You may have it. This diamond is a quality of yours that you like very much. Loving just one aspect of yourself might seem small but it’s the first step on a thrilling journey to self-discovery. Think of it like picking a single seed from a field of wildflowers. With love and care, you nurture it, watch it grow, and witness its vibrant transformation.
When you appreciate your kindness, celebrate your creativity and recognize your resilience, something beautiful happens. As you polish your chosen diamond, you’ll naturally start noticing other hidden gems – talents, passions, and strengths you might have overlooked. Each discovery adds another fact to your inner diamond and illuminates your unique potential.
But what about the flaws, the cracks in your mirror reflection? Don’t shy away from them. See them not as roadblocks but as opportunities for growth. Just like a jeweller carefully removes imperfections to enhance a diamond’s sparkle, you can work on your “rough edges” with self-compassion and understanding.
Conclusion
Self-discovery is not about a destination but about a continuous journey. It’s a path of exploration, growth, and acceptance. Like any journey, there will be challenges and setbacks, but the rewards are immeasurable. Through forgiveness, meditation and deep connection with yourself, you can unlock your true potential and live a life filled with meaning and purpose.
Remember, self-discovery is a practice, not a perfection. Be patient with yourself, celebrate your progress, and never stop learning and growing. As you continue on your journey, you may find that the greatest wisdom lies not in finding all the answers but in asking the right questions.
